The Art of Creative Unwind & Reset
The thrill of uncovering new places and experiences that fuel a creative soul.
Just over a week since we arrived by ferry in England, and the excitement for my wondrous road trip across this magical land is still bright and alive!
Ah, what's really testing my patience is sharing such newsletters from my iPhone and with this wild landscape's dodgy internet connection! But hey, every road trip comes with its adventures and surprising twist of challenges!
So thank you for your patience, and coming along with me on this creative journey.
Our first real stop on this road trip journey was Eastbourne beach. Under the hot sun, we took a lovely long walk along the pier to the town and ended the afternoon with a revitalising swim — my first ever swim in the English Channel.
Despite all the traveling and exploration this past week, it took me a while to open my sketchbook, so it seemed fitting to start with the smallest sketchbooks.
Normally the challenge of not painting enough is about lack time to create, or just lost for ideas! Do you don’t create.
Well, my problem is most certainly not having enough time but finding my flow while I’m on the road travelling.
So as I sat down to write this, I must admit, I felt a pinch of guilt popping up because I haven’t really been painting at all.
Soon enough I had a lightbulb moment and realised that I’m actually not feeling guilty. I have just decided to move away from social media and be more presence with my surroundings.
Of course I would love to rave on that I’m painting every day but I am simply not.
During the last few summer holidays, I've taken up in my own art challenges (I'll share those stories another time), but they kind of boxed me in and stressed me out. The reason being I committed myself to uploading and sharing my artwork on Instagram. Talk about unnecessary holiday stress!
It got tricky trying to go on with my days while also coming up with those challenge posts. And let's not even mention the struggle of dealing with a wonky internet signal while being off the grid—that's just added annoyance for those around you too.
Having said that, I have really enjoyed some past creative challenges. And since I'm taking a break from Instagram and other social media platforms this summer, I feel way more connected to nature and my surroundings. Checking in for a few minutes a day on Substack brings a healthy dose of pleasure to my day.
There are two wonders that never fail to captivate my curiosity: the wonders of handmade art and wild flowers.
For now, photography and exploring new places and wild nature are my current creative outlets. They happen every day with ease, curiosity, and enthusiasm.
I'll let the creative juices flow out in nature, keeping the inspiration alive.
I’m absolutely enchanted by the white cliffs and the oh-so-many shades of blue that you could spend hours trying to recreate with paint. My iPhone worked its magic, and I managed to film this view beautifully. Once I'm back home, I plan to put together a simple video to share with you.
As for art, it will come soon; I just need to find my flow and the right time of the day, and before I know it, I'll be getting out my watercolours more regularly than once a week.
I've given myself space to just be and take my time to unwind and rest during my creative art journey. After all, happy surprises often come when you least expect it.
Those blues are just glorious!! It all looks so warming and inviting after days of cold, wet grey here. Absolutely enjoy your holiday, I look forward to more of your photos and sketches when you find your rhythm. xx
