Discover the art of simple creativity with doodling — one of the most effortless ways to get those creative juices flowing. It’s something that can be done anywhere and it’s for everyone!
Let’s start with 5 Art Prompts designed to be easy to follow and full of fun. They are perfect for unblocking your creativity while making you more mindful.
Before we start:
I wanted to share this video I made a while back because it has been my go-to whenever I find myself in a creative rut or I’m too much in my head over everything.
The whole idea behind mindful doodling is to try and be in the moment (though it can take more of an effort some days) but it can help set your imagination free again.
It's a fun and easy way to kickstart your creativity with minimal art supplies you’ll need! The less you use, the easier it is to doodle away. Pen and paper are all you need, you can always get fancier with your art supplies another time.
It’s also my secret icebreaker tool for creative workshops! I find it to be a gentle way for a warm-up exercise, that is unrestricted, meaning it focuses on your creative flow.
So give it a try and let me know in the comments how you go!
🖊️ Grab a pen or marker and some paper: unblock creativity
Prompt 1: Lines (release any thoughts and tension as you draw lines. This mindful practice will help you meditate and be more in the present moment.
Prompt 2: Soft or Connection (explore the meaning these words hold for you and bring them to life through your artwork)
Prompt 3: Closed eyes (express yourself freely, releasing thoughts and emotions as you let loose on the paper)
Top tip - there's no right or wrong in this process. Take it at your own pace and don't worry about the outcome, allow space to let things happen.
If you think someone else would enjoy this article I encourage you to share it.
My favourite part about doodling is that all you need is a pen and paper, making it an anytime, anywhere activity—even during those little pockets of time when you're waiting around.
Just start by putting pen to paper anywhere on the page. Pay attention to releasing any worries or tension, bringing focus to the present moment.
Okay, I get it; it might be easier said than done when it starts to feel awkward and it’s anything but easy. But trust the process.
Top tip: start simple with just 2 minutes a day, and over time, you'll find more time for doodling and experience a deeper connection to your thoughts and emotions. Remember it’s not about making an artwork but allowing the mind to wander, and let ideas roam freely.
The best part? Doodling embraces imperfection and happy mistakes; there are no rules or need to share it with anyone—just you doing it for yourself.

I love these! I do something similar I call "pattern pieces" and use them for layering, backgrounds, borders, creating shapes in my various journals. Really fun way to design or continue a theme too. xx
